Biggar Rugby Club have appointed former Glasgow Warriors defence coach Gary Mercer as their head coach.

The 49-year-old New Zealander is expected to take over at the Hartree Mill club before the end of this season.

Mercer is a highly-respected former player with clubs such as Leeds Rhinos, and his extensive coaching background also includes Glasgow Hawks, Yorkshire Carnegie and the Scottish Rugby Academy.
