ANNIESLAND,Balgray and Burnbrae are saddened to learn of the death of former Scotland back-row forward Bob Taylor. He was 91. He passed away on 27 September.

Taylor won four caps for Scotland out of Kelvinside-West in 1951. His debut was the 19-0 victory over a Wales side that included 11 British Lions watched by a then record crowd of 80,000 at Murrayfield.

That match was the prelude to Scotland losing their next 17 games and earned a place in Scottish Rugby folklore, principally through a remarkable long-range drop-goal by Taylor’s back-row colleague, the Scotland captain and No 8 Peter Kininmonth.

Anaesthetist

Educated at Glenalmond College and Glasgow University, where he studied medicine, Bob Taylor worked for many years as an anaesthetist at the Victoria Infirmary in Glasgow.

Away from rugby, he enjoyed the outdoor life, including field sports.

His funeral will take place at Cardross Crematorium on Monday (12 October) at 1.15pm.
