James Pinkerton on a well trodden path

The road to Hamilton Waikato

I’m

In mid February Hawks centre James Pinkerton moves to New Zealand to pursue his teaching career and play a bit of rugby
He will join up with Hamilton Old Boys
This road to and from Hamilton Waikato is a well trodden path for Hawks players and for one of our founder clubs Glasgow Accies
So many names spring to mind including Glenn Metcalfe ,Tommy Hayes Eugene Martin, Hamu Lee but it wasn’t all one way with Richard McKnight, Danny Porte ,Ross Van der Hoek and Stewart Smith amongst those who travelled in the opposite direction

The coaching connection goes back to Kevin Greene who was Head Coach at Glasgow Accies and also coached Glasgow when Glenn Metcalfe arrived and also the newly appointed England attack coach Andrew Strawbridge
Worth also recalling the Glasgow Thistles project that saw many young Scottish players getting the opportunity of furthering their rugby experience in Waikato

Bill Howie son of our past president Tom Howie has had a long refereeing career in Waikato area

All at Hawks thank Pinky for his efforts in the Hawks jersey and wish him the best of luck on the next step in his career on and off the pitch in the Land of the Long White Cloud
